"Something wicked this way comes," they called pointing at me, And I tried to keep the tears at bay from their taunting cruelty. My hair, my skin, my walk, my clothes, there was naught of worth to them. They hardly knew my name, yet I was already condemned. High school can be hard when you're the target of disdain, By bullies whose self worth is measured by another's pain. The ugly names they called me, I was cursed, I was reviled. But the day they called me witch they never realized I smiled. Revenge was not the answer, it was justice that I sought, Punishment to fit the crime and a lesson to be taught. A mirror, morning glories and the moonlight spell I sing; For one day each barb delivered it is they who'll feel the sting. I hear quiet weeping, my tormentors are subdued, And I stop to offer comfort, though it scares me to intrude. So we talked and got to know the souls hiding there unknown. Enemy was turned to empathy with seeds of friendship sown. Something wicked this way came but it wasn't what they thought, It was fear breeding intolerance, judgements made by default, Or hurting someone else 'cause you're afraid they might hurt you. But compassion, caring, kindness, are what will see us through. For hearts and minds are changed when we walk in another's shoes.

You left me alone - not quite at home, A summons you couldn't refuse. To Galifrey - you were called away, It wasn't my choice to be left by you. Time after time after time after time I think of you. And time after time after time after time I'm missing you. Time after time I look to the sky and wonder who, Is traveling through - The depths of space, and time and place, And seeing new - faces on you. Introduced to John Smith - guess you couldn't resist, A school of mysterious repute. Then the TARDIS I found - while looking around, There could be no substitute. Heard "Hello Sarah Jane" - you saying my name, The years just melted away. And just like before - as the monsters roared, We run straight into the fray. Time after time after time after time I thought of you. And time after time after time after time I so missed you. Time after time I looked to the sky and I wondered who, Was traveling through - The depths of space, and time and place, And seeing new - faces on you. I felt so spurned - when you didn't return, And asked if I'd done something wrong. But pain makes you fly - you never say good-bye, Searching for where you belong. Cause you never age - while we die and decay, And knowing it, hurts you so. Now Rose will learn - On the day it's her turn, To watch you as you go. Time after time after time after time she'll think of you. And time after time after time after time she will so miss you. Time after time she will look to the sky and wonder who, Is traveling through - The depths of space, and time and place, And seeing new - faces on you. You asked me to stay - What could I say? It was what I wanted to hear. But this time my choice - to find my own voice, My path was finally clear. But time after time after time after time I will think of you. And time after time after time after time I will still miss you. Time after time I will look to the sky and wonder who, Is traveling through - The depths of space and time and place, And seeing new - faces on you - the way you do.

A princess till the age of two, Lady when her mother died. Heard those who cursed Anne Boleyn's name, knew all that it implied. Yet she would still be third in line to gain her father's throne, When Edward then Mary both died without heirs of their own. And she fractured every fairy tale - That said be meek and mild. Hung Henry's portrait o're her throne - Reminding all she was his child. Then outwitted every emissary, Prince and diplomat. Elizabeth the brilliant - - - As canny as a cat. England was near to bankruptcy when Bess took the helm, Of the sorry ship of state which once was a mighty realm. She worked to heal the wounds and ease all her people's woes, And wisely told her subjects they could worship as they chose. And she fractured every fairy tale - That said be meek and mild. Hung Henry's portrait o're her throne - Reminding all she was his child. Then outwitted every emissary, Prince and diplomat. Elizabeth the statesman - - - As canny as a cat. And they cried "How can a woman run the Empire of Britain? We must find her a husband for our kingdom needs a man." But she kept her own wise counsel, let them court her as they pleased, While their gifts helped fill the coffers of the cash-strapped treasury. Bridge: Men of the age discounted women's worth, Yet were forced to recognize her sovereignty. And her intellect left many in the dirt, The greatest monarch England's ever seen! And she fractured every fairy tale - That said be meek and mild. Hung Henry's portrait o're her throne - Reminding all she was his child. Then outwitted every emissary, Prince and diplomat. Elizabeth the Bride of England - Canny as a cat. Queen Elizabeth the First - canny as a cat.

Deep inside the galaxy, we're heading for the Rim. Chocolate, scotch and coffee have our holds filled to the brim. This haul will settle all our debts and set us up real swell, ‘Til Murphy realized the trip was going far too well. Three things never trust in if you sail the stellar seas, The fuel rates charged, the portage rules, and the face of Fate you see. The pirates showed up just before we reached the final gate. Their ship out massed us three to one, survival odds not great. They stood between us and escape, scanning every hold, And knew the stuff we carried was worth far more than gold. Three things to consider when attacking someone new, The weapons shown, the captain's mind, and what a desperate ship might do. The captain said "We can't allow that ship to rob us blind." And headed for a gas giant we'd passed not far behind. He steered us though the asteroids, the pirates closing fast, Then skimmed the atmosphere until the planet caught their mass. Three things learned the hard way, mass doesn't give you luck, Cargo captains are insane, and gravity wells suck. Our freighter might not look like much, but she's got it where it counts; Thrusters meant for hauling ore scream as the pressure mounts. Aerodynamic shaping shields shed atmosphere as well ... The raider hits a down-draft and goes straight to bloody hell! Three things trust and cherish well: The ship that saves your hide, A captain crazy like a fox, and how gravity's applied.

Morgaine 03:07
In deep space's gloom - On a dead moon, The Gates were discovered by men. Learned how they were used - How they'd been abused, And how it could happen again. The mission they new - selecting the crew, To close the gates once and for all. There'd be no return - their children would learn, The price to answer that call. Morgaine – Closer of Gates. Morgaine – Killer of worlds. Morgaine – Heavy's the price, To save the universe. Last of her line - wanders through time, Journey's from world to world. Closing the gates - sealing the fates, Of many a powerful Lord. Human's she galls - half of her Qhal, Half a race older than known. One human stays - Sharing her days, Vanye befriends her alone. Morgaine – Closer of Gates. Morgaine – Killer of worlds. Morgaine – Heavy's the price, To save the universe. Changling she wields - Needing no shield, A weapon of terrible might. A Gate in itself - To cancel all else, Draws all into endless black night. The Gates were misused - And chaos ensued, Time convulsed and threatened to end. Closing the doors - Will balance restore, The fabric of time will then mend. Morgaine – Closer of Gates. Morgaine – Killer of worlds. Morgaine – Heavy's the price, To save the universe.

Your father's dream to have a child, he'd waited for so long, But fate had not been kind to he and Kim. And when we fell in love I knew - His heart's greatest desire was you, And science could help our family to begin. Not a child of my body, still a child of my heart; I love you just as though I gave you birth. Family is not defined only by ties of blood, Nor is it the measure of its worth. Many people helped to make the dream of you come true, Some you know and some you'll never meet. Science helped to facilitate - Our love's desire to create, To have you make our family complete. Not a child of my body, still a child of my heart; I love you just as though I gave you birth. Family is not defined only by ties of blood, Nor is it the measure of its worth. Your daddy died knowing at last a father he would be. I wish he could be here to watch you grow. Still surrounding us his love I feel - His spirit through your eyes revealed, His joy within your laughter overflows. Not a child of my body, still a child of my heart; I love you just as though I gave you birth. Family is not defined only by ties of blood, Nor is it the measure of its worth. Bridge: Many will be there to love and guide you, Sibs, Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents, Some by blood, others by choice. A community of music to encourage your life's song, In a circle where you'll always belong! Not a child of my body, still a child of my heart; I love you just as though I gave you birth. Family is not defined only by ties of blood, Nor is it the measure of its worth.

I look upon my son and dream of what he might become, Watching as he grows with hope and joy. In those dreams I see him always reaching for the stars, My intelligent, creative little boy. I dream of him excelling in both sciences and arts, Discovering new planets and writing songs on dad's guitars. The dreams of a mother's love see the world though his bright eyes, With no limits and each moment filled with wonder and surprise. The news comes on and all I see is violence, malice, greed. At times is feels like strife is everywhere. Fear takes hold as I look upon my sweet child once again, And all my dreams dissolve into nightmares. I see the worlds leaders vow revenge and endless war, I worry prejudice and hate will divide us evermore. The climate's turning deadly, will he have a place to grow? In fear born of a mother's love, the nightmares overflow. Will our children ever get to live their dreams? Or will they live in a nightmare, caused by our extremes? It is we who hold the key - We must make our leaders see, The future of our children must be more than just a dream. I see my little granddaughter, the world to her so new, Magic is in everything she sees. Her mother's dreams of her future I know are bright and bold, She also has nightmares same as me. Will deserved opportunities to her still be denied? Will she be judged for looks and not the clever mind inside? Will she face harassment just because she's female born? Will society ever refuse to see that as the norm? Will our children ever get to live their dreams? Or will they live in a nightmare, caused by our extremes? It is we who hold the key - We must make our leaders see, The future of our children must be more than just a dream. Bridge: Each generation looks to leave their kids a better world, And now it's time for us to take our turn. Reverse the hate that's taking hold, Give warmth to hearts that have grown cold, Transform the nightmare to a dream once more. So our children will get to live their dreams. So they won't live in a nightmare, caused by our extremes. It is we who hold the key - We must make our leaders see, The future of our children must be more than just a dream.

Silver Is 04:59
A teacher near four decades, she touched so many lives, Inspiring generations and helping them to strive, To unlock the potential of each mind. Facing heartbreak when stuck down my father was by cancer, She never lost her faith, even when she held no answers, Helping each of us some joy to find. Silver is - the voice that soothed my childhood fears. Silver is - the love with which she gently dries my tears. Silver is the wisdom shining from her kindly eyes. Silver is the light she shares, love uncompromised. Joy and sorrow, laughter, grief all etched upon her face, This lovely woman I call mom, the epitome of quiet grace, A stronger woman I have never known. And she's always been there for me, support which never waivers, Ever am I gratefully so proud to be her daughter, Guiding me no matter where I roamed. Silver is - the voice that soothed my childhood fears. Silver is - the love with which she gently dries my tears. Silver is the wisdom shining from her kindly eyes. Silver is the light she shares, love uncompromised. I know one day I'll lose her, in this circle that is life. And on that day the grief will cut me like a jagged knife, And yet I will still pray thankfully. For the many mothers in this world, both noble and fine, Of all of them, I was blessed, that Mary Lund was mine, Her example of loving selflessly. Silver is - the voice that soothed my childhood fears. Silver is - the love with which she gently dries my tears. Silver is the wisdom shining from her kindly eyes. Silver is the light she shares, love uncompromised. Yes, silver is my mother's life, love uncompromised.

For years SETI has patiently - Listened to the stars, Hoping for a signal or a trace. But now their patience has run thin - They want to advertise, Our location to everyone in space. Are we really ready for First Contact? Our track record on earth is not so keen. We've screwed up most of our terrestrial First Contacts. What makes us think we'll get it right, When the ones we meet are tentacled and green? The natives of America - Could tell a tale or ten, Of how our first contact went with them. As Europeans judged them less - Advanced or civilized, Disease and bigotry saw them condemned. Are we really ready for First Contact? Our track record shows we don't have a clue. We've screwed up most of our terrestrial First Contacts. What makes us think we'll get it right, When the ones we meet breathe methane and are blue? Captain Cook said the Aboriginals - Just want us gone, But he did not respect their rights or claim. Setting up a penal colony - Without native consent, The way he treated them a bloody shame. Are we really ready for First Contact? Our record shows we know less than we think. We've screwed up most of our terrestrial First Contacts. What makes us think we'll get it right, When the ones we meet are ten feet tall and pink? Now if we tell the universe - We want to have contact, It's likely they won't get the message soon. So there's hope by then we'll learn - To be more tolerant, Seeing past the differences to commune. Maybe then we'll be ready for First Contact; Learn from our dismal record and adjust. Do a better job with extra terrestrial First Contact. And think before we act for once, Cause we might get just one chance to earn their trust.

A girl once wished for freedom - And a dragon granted it, But what she didn't know was - Never trust a dragon's gift. For with no plan, just yearning - He could twist it as he chose, And the trap of ocean waters - Is still a cage door closed. They say a woman's scorn burns hotter than hell's ire, But a mermaid's rage is fiercer . . than a dragon's fire. At first all she could do was add the water of her tears, Then slowly she overcame the weight of all her fears. As sorrow turned to anger at how she had been used, She went in search of others - this dragon had abused. They say a woman's scorn burns hotter than hell's ire, But a mermaid's rage is fiercer . . than a dragon's fire. She gathered other mermaids by the same dragon deceived. They visited the sea witch and redress was conceived. For justice lure him back to that beach upon the coast, To take away from him - the thing he treasures most. They say a woman's scorn burns hotter than hell's ire, But a mermaid's rage is fiercer . . than a dragon's fire. A ring of coiled gilded gold was offered as a gift, And greedily accepted then it hissed as he grabbed it. Snake scales grew as dragon wings shattered on the sand, He would never soar the sky again - a mere snake upon the land. They say a woman's scorn burns hotter than hell's ire, But a mermaid's rage is fiercer . . than a dragon's fire!

Some folks want to limit, who each of us can be, How our love should manifest and what we should believe. Fear and prejudice are all that they have known, They'll never understand love has a mind of its own. For love is blind to fences – And love can see through walls. Love ignores all labels – As heart and soul it calls. Bringing you together – To make a life as one. No one has the right to say – It should not be done. Love knows no boundaries and makes its own rules, The one that you bond with, is the partner you choose. Finding another heart with whom you have rapport, Feeling more complete than you ever did before. For love is blind to fences – And love can see through walls. Love ignores all labels – As heart and soul it calls. Bringing you together – To make a life as one. No one has the right to say – It should not be done. A wedding is a promise to be each other's rock, Side by side united as through life you walk. In the joy of the brightest day or the stormiest of nights, Joined together now you face the future that you write. For love is blind to fences – And love can see through walls. Love ignores all labels – As heart and soul it calls. Bringing you together – To make a life as one. No one has the right to say – It should not be done.

Not all villains wear black hats, and not all heros a cape or mask. There are quiet heros with us every day at every turn, Inspiring us to strive for higher than we thought we could, They touch our lives and leave us better than then we were. Bullied as a child, he could have grown up quite embittered, But the heros in his books and comics showed a better way. So he vowed he'd be a hero in his heart and soul and mind, Their code of honor made his own and followed his whole life. He's with me every step - his love surrounds me. I hear his voice whenever I'm in doubt. His spirit will still guide me - his love still leads the way, And whispers to my heart, "you can make it one more day." My husband, my hero, my friend; You are in my heart forever, I know your love will never end. When Kim was faced with cancer, his love became his sword and shield. Steadfastly stood beside her ‘til she shed her mortal bonds. Then he saw a friend was swallowed by the darkness of her pain, So he showed me there was reason to believe in hope again. Into the sun he pulled me, showed it wasn't wrong to be myself. Courage helped me find, to face the tigers in my life. His superpower music, my demons had no chance to win, When it unlocked my heart, and his love came flooding in. He's with me every step - his love surrounds me. I hear his voice whenever I'm in doubt. His spirit will still guide me - his love still leads the way, And whispers to my heart, "you can make it one more day." My husband, my hero, my friend; You are in my heart forever, I know your love will never end. My hero vanquished villains which no swordsman could attack. His nemeses were loneliness, uncertainty, and grief. Facing each with courage, with thoughtfulness and grace, Along the way encouraged me, my true self to embrace. As I struggle with the heartbreak of losing him too soon, I remember all the lessons that he taught. By example, showed me healing, gentle strength came from within, And how to live through sorrow, to find your joy again. Bridge: And he's there every time I sing our songs, Standing right beside me and helping me hold on. And I know you will be watching over me and Aidan. Learning about his father, you'll be a hero to our son. He's with me every step - his love surrounds me. I hear his voice whenever I'm in doubt. His spirit will still guide me - his love still leads the way, And he whispers to my heart, "you can make it one more day." My husband, my hero, my friend; You are in my heart forever, I know your love will never end.

about

"Alone" - When my husband, Bari, died in 2014, I lost not only my best friend and the love of my life, but my songwriting and performance partner, too. Yet Bari is so much a part of this album. First, 2 of the songs were written with him; but also because Bari was the first person to truly encourage my songwriting endeavors, and he gave me the courage and confidence to continue after he was gone. He has been, and always will be, my muse.

"With Friends" - because I couldn't have done this alone. Some extraordinary people gave their valuable time to make this album happen. I can't thank David, Gary, Cathy, and Alec enough (see below) - you are all so awesome! It was a lot of fun doing this with you.

"With Friends" also refers to the filk community, which is filled with the most wonderful people I have ever met. I am embraced and given love and comfort when I need it most and am continually encouraged. It's a big, beautiful family that I am grateful and proud to not only be a part of, but raising our son, Aidan, within.
