This was the first filk song I ever wrote - way back in 1988 when I first discovered filk. The reference is to C.J. Cherryh's Morgaine books, which I highly recommend. Ms. Cherryh is still one of my all time favorite authors.

In deep space's gloom - On a dead moon,
The Gates were discovered by men.
Learned how they were used - How they'd been abused,
And how it could happen again.
The mission they new - selecting the crew,
To close the gates once and for all.
There'd be no return - their children would learn,
The price to answer that call.

Morgaine – Closer of Gates.
Morgaine – Killer of worlds.
Morgaine – Heavy's the price,
To save the universe.

Last of her line - wanders through time,
Journey's from world to world.
Closing the gates - sealing the fates,
Of many a powerful Lord.
Human's she galls - half of her Qhal,
Half a race older than known.
One human stays - Sharing her days,
Vanye befriends her alone.
